ICU nurse training boosts critical thinking and patient care
NCT ID NCT06997614
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tested whether a special nutrition training program could help ICU nurses think more critically and improve patient care. 84 critically ill patients and their nurses took part. The program focused on using the best available evidence to guide nutrition decisions. Results showed that nurses who received the training had better critical thinking skills, and their patients had improved nutrition levels and satisfaction. However, the study was small and done at one hospital, so more research is needed to confirm these findings.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
evidence-based nutritional management protocol
What this could lead to
If confirmed in larger studies, this approach could improve how nurses think critically and care for ICU patients, leading to better nutrition and satisfaction.
What could go wrong
This was a small, single-center study with only 84 participants. Results may not apply to other hospitals, and the improvements seen might not hold up in larger, more diverse groups.
