NCT ID NCT07213063
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether taking creatine and HMB supplements for 8 weeks can improve muscle strength, balance, and body composition in people with Down syndrome. Fifty participants will receive either the supplements or a placebo, along with nutrition education. Researchers will measure changes in lean mass, handgrip strength, and bone density before and after the trial.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
creatine monohydrate and beta-hydroxy-beta-methylbutyrate (HMB) supplements
What this could lead to
If it works, this could point toward a simple supplement routine to help people with Down syndrome gain strength and improve balance.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial with only 50 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. Supplements may not produce meaningful improvements.
