First seen Feb 16, 2026 · Last updated Jun 11, 2026 · Updated 16 times

Summary

This study looked at whether giving a probiotic (Lactobacillus reuteri) to breastfeeding mothers could change the bacteria in their breast milk and in their baby's gut. Seventy mothers and their newborns took part. Half the mothers received the probiotic drops daily for 30 days, while the other half did not. Researchers measured bacteria levels in milk and baby stool samples before and after the treatment to see if the probiotic made a difference.
