Sleep apnea device may keep heart rhythm in check

NCT ID NCT07358429

First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study looks at whether using a CPAP machine at night can reduce the chance of atrial fibrillation (an irregular heartbeat) returning in people who have both sleep apnea and a history of AF. Researchers will follow 91 adults for 12 months, tracking how often they use CPAP and checking for AF recurrence with ECG and Holter monitors.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) device

What this could lead to

If CPAP adherence reduces AF recurrence, it could point to a simple way to manage heart rhythm problems in sleep apnea patients.

What could go wrong

This is an observational study, not a randomized trial, so results may be less definitive. CPAP adherence varies, and the small size (91 people) limits how much we can conclude.
