COVID-19's hidden toll on the retina: eye scans reveal damage

NCT ID NCT04881253

First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026

Summary

This study aimed to collect eye scans from people who had COVID-19 to see if the virus caused damage to the retina, the light-sensitive tissue at the back of the eye. Researchers planned to compare severe and mild COVID-19 cases, but the study was stopped early and only enrolled 23 participants. The goal was to better understand how COVID-19 might affect vision.
