Why COVID survivors feel exhausted: breathing muscle study reveals clues

NCT ID NCT04854863

First seen Jan 30, 2026 · Last updated Jun 11, 2026 · Updated 19 times

Summary

This study looked at why some people who were hospitalized for COVID-19 still feel tired and short of breath. Researchers measured breathing muscle strength in 50 survivors—half had been on a ventilator, half had only needed extra oxygen. The goal was to understand how severe COVID-19 affects the diaphragm and other breathing muscles, which could help design better rehabilitation programs. No new treatment was tested; this was an observation-only study.
