Scientists probe COVID's hidden impact on unborn babies

NCT ID NCT04585945

Summary

This study aimed to understand how COVID-19 infection during pregnancy might affect the placenta, which provides oxygen and nutrients to the baby. Researchers analyzed placenta tissue and umbilical cord blood from 68 pregnant people who had COVID-19, comparing them to samples from before the pandemic. The goal was to see if the infection causes changes in the placenta that could affect the baby's health and development.
