NCT ID NCT07226505

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tests whether adding core-strengthening exercises to standard physical therapy can reduce pain and improve function in people with temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders. Fifty adults with jaw pain will be randomly assigned to either standard TMJ therapy or standard therapy plus a core exercise program. The goal is to see if a stronger core can ease jaw symptoms and improve quality of life.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

core strengthening exercises (Shirley Sahrmann protocol)

What this could lead to

If it works, this could offer a simple, drug-free way to ease TMJ pain and improve jaw function by strengthening the core.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-stage trial with only 50 participants. The link between core strength and jaw pain is still unproven, so results may not be clear or widely applicable.
