Jaw pain breakthrough? MRI may predict who benefits from a One-Time injection
NCT ID NCT07750522
First seen Aug 06, 2026 · Last updated Aug 07, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether MRI scans can predict how much people with jaw joint problems improve after a single injection of hyaluronic acid combined with platelet-rich plasma (PRP) made from their own blood. Adults aged 18–45 with TMJ internal derangement who haven't improved with conservative care will receive the injection and be followed for 6 months. Researchers will track pain, clicking, and mouth opening, and repeat MRI at 6 months to see if imaging changes match clinical outcomes. The goal is to help doctors identify who is most likely to benefit from this minimally invasive treatment.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- A single injection into the jaw joint combining hyaluronic acid with platelet-rich plasma (PRP) made from the participant's own blood.
- What this could lead to
- If MRI findings predict who improves, doctors could better select patients for this minimally invasive injection, sparing others from ineffective procedures.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-stage study without a comparison group, so benefits may not be confirmed. The injection itself carries risks like pain, swelling, or infection.
