First seen May 20, 2026 · Last updated May 22, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study looks at how not eating enough calories to match intense training—called low energy availability—may affect the heart health of Black Division I athletes at HBCUs. Researchers will measure blood vessel stiffness, blood sugar, and cholesterol in 150 athletes aged 18-25. The goal is to find early warning signs of heart disease and develop better nutrition and training strategies.
