Psychedelic study to test if 'Trip' or brain chemistry boosts mood

NCT ID NCT07360301

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jul 02, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study will give psilocybin to 120 healthy adults with low well-being, either while awake or asleep, to see if the psychedelic experience is needed for mood benefits. Participants will also receive a placebo or clonidine for comparison. The goal is to understand how psilocybin works, not to treat a disease.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
psilocybin
What this could lead to
If successful, this study could help explain whether the psychedelic experience itself or direct brain effects improve well-being, pointing toward better mental health treatments.
What could go wrong
This is an early Phase 1 study with only 120 participants, so results may not apply broadly. The psychedelic experience can be intense and unpredictable, and the study hasn't started recruiting yet.
