Can a glucose monitor survive heart surgery? new study aims to find out
NCT ID NCT06861881
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study will test how well the Dexcom G7 continuous glucose monitor works in 100 adults undergoing heart surgery with cardiopulmonary bypass. The device's readings will be compared to standard blood glucose checks during and after surgery. The goal is to see if the monitor stays accurate even when patients are on blood pressure medications, cooled down, or have acidic blood.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Dexcom G7 Continuous Glucose Monitor (device)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could show that continuous glucose monitors are reliable during heart surgery, potentially improving glucose management in surgical patients.
What could go wrong
This is an early-stage accuracy study with only 100 participants, so results may not apply to all patients or surgeries. The device may malfunction or give inaccurate readings during surgery.
