New scanner aims to sharpen cancer radiation accuracy

NCT ID NCT05524454

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tested a new cone-beam CT scanner designed to take clearer images while patients are on the radiotherapy couch. 41 adults with head-and-neck, lung, breast, abdominal, or pelvic cancer each had one or two scans with the new device. The goal was to see if the images were good enough to help guide radiation more precisely, potentially reducing damage to healthy tissue.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Novel cone-beam CT imaging device

What this could lead to

If successful, this scanner could provide clearer images during radiotherapy, potentially making cancer treatments more precise and reducing side effects.

What could go wrong

This was a small feasibility study with only 41 participants, so results may not apply to all patients or cancer types. The device is not yet proven to improve treatment outcomes.
