Which radiotherapy technique offers best value for pelvic cancers?
NCT ID NCT01325961
First seen Jul 02, 2026 · Last updated Jul 02, 2026
Summary
This trial compares three modern radiotherapy techniques—helical tomotherapy and two types of dynamic arc therapy (RapidArc and VMAT)—for treating prostate, cervical, and anal canal cancers that require pelvic lymph node irradiation. The goal is to determine which method is most cost-effective while maintaining treatment quality. The study includes 215 adults with locally advanced cancers who need radiation to the pelvic lymph nodes, often alongside chemotherapy or hormone therapy.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Radiation therapy (IMRT via helical tomotherapy or dynamic arc therapy)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could identify the most cost-effective radiotherapy technique for treating pelvic cancers, potentially improving access and reducing healthcare costs.
What could go wrong
This is a cost-comparison study, not a test of new treatments. It may not show differences in cancer outcomes or side effects between the techniques.
