Liver cirrhosis patients: which procedure stops bleeding best?

NCT ID NCT07490405

First seen Mar 27, 2026 · Last updated May 09, 2026 · Updated 8 times

Summary

This study compares two treatments for people with liver cirrhosis who have severe bleeding from enlarged veins in the stomach or esophagus and an overactive spleen. One treatment is a surgery to remove the spleen and disconnect certain veins, and the other is a less invasive procedure to create a shunt in the liver. The goal is to see which approach better controls bleeding and has fewer side effects like confusion. About 140 adults aged 18-75 with specific liver function levels will take part.
