First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This trial compares four different surgical techniques for treating pilonidal sinus, a painful skin condition near the tailbone, in adolescents aged 12 to 18. The goal is to find which method causes the least pain, fewest complications, and lowest chance of the sinus coming back. Eighty participants will be randomly assigned to one of the four procedures and followed for outcomes.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

surgery (crystallized phenol, endoscopy, Limberg flap, modified Limberg flap)

What this could lead to

If successful, this could identify the most effective surgical technique for pilonidal sinus in adolescents, reducing recurrence and pain.

What could go wrong

This is a small, single-center trial with only 80 participants, so results may not apply to all patients. Surgery always carries risks like infection or scarring.
