Can collagen injections quiet persistent back pain?
NCT ID NCT07675304
First seen Jun 30, 2026 · Last updated Jul 01, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether injecting collagen, lidocaine (a numbing agent), or a mix of both into the lower back can reduce pain and improve movement in people with chronic low back pain. Participants receive five weekly sessions of tiny injections into the muscles and soft tissues around the spine. The goal is to see if this approach, called mesotherapy, can ease pain and help people engage more easily in physical therapy.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Type I tropocollagen and/or lidocaine (lignocaine) injections
What this could lead to
If effective, this approach could offer a minimally invasive option to ease chronic low back pain and support physical therapy.
What could go wrong
This is a very early-phase study with only 90 participants, so results may not apply broadly. Pain relief may be modest or temporary, and there is a risk of allergic reactions or injection-site issues.
