NCT ID NCT06937671

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jul 30, 2026 · Updated 3 times

Summary

This study tests whether adding a hot tool to the standard cold removal of large colon polyps lowers the chance of polyps growing back. About 194 adults with flat or slightly raised polyps at least 20 mm wide will be randomly assigned to one of two procedures. Participants will have a follow-up colonoscopy 3 to 6 months later to check for recurrence and complications.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
Endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR) procedure
What this could lead to
If successful, this could establish a safer, more effective standard technique for removing large colon polyps, reducing the need for repeat procedures.
What could go wrong
This is a relatively small, early-stage trial comparing two procedural variations. Results may not apply to all polyp types or settings, and both techniques carry risks like bleeding or perforation.
