Zapping the brain to sharpen the mind in schizophrenia
NCT ID NCT06155786
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tested whether two types of mild electrical brain stimulation (tDCS and tRNS) could improve memory and thinking in 36 people with schizophrenia. Participants received both types of stimulation on different days to compare effects. The goal was to see if these safe, non-invasive techniques could help with cognitive problems that often come with schizophrenia.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) and transcranial random noise stimulation (tRNS) devices
What this could lead to
If it works, this could point toward a non-drug way to help people with schizophrenia think more clearly and remember better.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study with only 36 participants. The effects may be small or not last long, and results may not apply to everyone with schizophrenia.
