Heart fix in one go: new study combines two procedures for AFib patients
NCT ID NCT06861673
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests doing two heart procedures at the same time for people with atrial fibrillation (AFib) who cannot take long-term blood thinners. The first procedure uses pulse field ablation to fix the heart's faulty electrical signals. The second closes off a small pouch in the heart (left atrial appendage) to lower stroke risk. Researchers will track 60 patients to see if the combined approach is safe and keeps the heart in normal rhythm after one year.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Pulse field ablation (PFA) catheter and left atrial appendage closure (LAAC) device
What this could lead to
If successful, this combined approach could offer a one-time procedure to control atrial fibrillation and reduce stroke risk without long-term blood thinners.
What could go wrong
This is a small, retrospective registry study (60 people), not a randomized trial. Results may not apply broadly, and combined procedures carry risks like bleeding or heart sac inflammation.
