Could a common ED drug boost fertility in PCOS?
NCT ID NCT07769476
First seen Aug 18, 2026 · Last updated Aug 18, 2026
Summary
This trial asks whether adding sildenafil citrate to the standard fertility drug clomiphene citrate can improve ovulation and pregnancy rates in women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) who have been trying to conceive for over two years. About 98 women aged 18–45 will be randomly assigned to receive either clomiphene alone or clomiphene plus sildenafil for 12 weeks. Researchers will track ovulation, pregnancy, and uterine lining thickness to see if the combination offers an advantage.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- clomiphene citrate plus sildenafil citrate
- What this could lead to
- If adding sildenafil works, it could offer a simple, affordable way to boost ovulation and pregnancy chances for women with PCOS who struggle to conceive.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-stage comparison, and the added benefit of sildenafil is uncertain. Side effects or lack of effect are possible, and results may not apply to all women with PCOS.
