Brain scans may reveal why some with cerebral palsy feel chronic pain
NCT ID NCT05197946
First seen Jun 29, 2026 · Last updated Jun 30, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study uses MRI scans to look at brain and spinal cord structure and function in people with cerebral palsy who experience chronic pain. Researchers hope to find patterns in the brain that are linked to pain and sensory issues. Participants aged 8 and older with cerebral palsy, as well as those without, will undergo unsedated MRI scans and provide information through interviews and physical exams. The goal is to better understand the brain's role in chronic pain, not to test a new treatment.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this could help identify brain-based markers for chronic pain in cerebral palsy, potentially guiding future treatments.
- What could go wrong
- This is an observational study, not a treatment trial. It may not directly lead to new therapies, and results might not apply to all individuals with cerebral palsy.
