Could a natural gel heal Kids' burns faster than silver?
NCT ID NCT06987981
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether a chitosan-based gel (made from natural sources) helps children's burns heal faster and with less scarring than standard silver-based dressings. About 40 children aged 6 months to 17 years with mild to moderate burns will be randomly assigned to one of the two treatments. Researchers will track healing time, scar quality, and cost.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Chitosan-based dressing and silver-based dressing
What this could lead to
If chitosan dressings work better, they could become a new standard for faster burn healing and less scarring in children.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial with only 40 children, so results may not apply to everyone. Chitosan dressings are less studied than silver ones, and their benefits are not yet proven.
