ChatBot keeps tabs on cancer patients, could cut hospital trips
NCT ID NCT05318027
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether a chatbot that texts patients and tracks their phone activity can catch cancer treatment symptoms early. About 70 adults with lung, gastrointestinal, or head and neck cancers will use the chatbot during chemo and radiation. The goal is to see if this approach reduces urgent clinic visits and hospital stays.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
ChatBot and activity monitoring via mobile phone
What this could lead to
If it works, this could help cancer patients manage treatment side effects at home and avoid unnecessary hospital visits.
What could go wrong
This is a small Phase 2 trial with only 70 people, so results may not apply to everyone. The chatbot may miss some symptoms or cause extra worry.
