Can a smart glucose monitor improve diabetes care? new trial aims to find out.
NCT ID NCT05633628
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether using a continuous glucose monitor (CGM) for short periods, combined with personalized feedback, helps adults with type 2 diabetes control their blood sugar better than standard finger-prick testing. About 400 participants will be randomly assigned to either periodic CGM or usual self-monitoring. The main goal is to see if HbA1c levels improve over time.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) device
What this could lead to
If successful, this could show that periodic CGM with personalized feedback helps people with type 2 diabetes better manage their blood sugar levels.
What could go wrong
This is a behavioral intervention study, not a drug trial, so the effect may be modest. Results depend on patient engagement and may not apply to everyone with type 2 diabetes.
