Smartwatch for sugar: could a CGM get people moving and stop diabetes before it starts?

NCT ID NCT07455435

First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tests whether wearing a continuous glucose monitor (CGM) can motivate people with prediabetes to be more physically active. Fifty adults with prediabetes will wear a CGM for 20 days and receive education on their blood sugar readings. The goal is to see if seeing real-time glucose data encourages more steps and helps stabilize blood sugar, potentially preventing type 2 diabetes.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

continuous glucose monitor (CGM) and physical activity education

What this could lead to

If it works, this could point toward a simple, wearable-based strategy to help people with prediabetes increase physical activity and lower their risk of developing type 2 diabetes.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-stage study with only 50 participants and no control group, so results may not be generalizable. The intervention is short-term (20 days), so any benefits might not last.
