New ultrasound tech may predict kidney function after surgery

NCT ID NCT07294859

First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study is testing whether two advanced ultrasound techniques—contrast-enhanced ultrasound and super-resolution imaging—can predict how well a person's kidneys will recover after surgery for kidney cancer. Researchers will scan the kidneys before and after surgery and track kidney function for a year. The goal is to see if these imaging tools can accurately forecast long-term kidney health and early signs of acute kidney injury.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to

If successful, this could lead to a non-invasive way to predict kidney function recovery after surgery, helping doctors personalize follow-up care.

What could go wrong

This is an observational study, not a treatment trial. The imaging techniques are still experimental, and results may not change current medical practice.
