At-Home HPV test could save lives in underserved asian women
NCT ID NCT04557423
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This completed trial enrolled 797 Asian American women (Korean, Vietnamese, Chinese) aged 30-65 who were overdue for cervical cancer screening. All participants received community education and help scheduling a clinic screening. Half also got an HPV self-sampling kit to use at home. The study measured how many women completed screening, either at a clinic or by returning the self-sample. The goal is to find better ways to reach underserved communities and prevent cervical cancer.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- HPV self-sampling kit
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this approach could increase cervical cancer screening among Asian American women who are overdue, potentially catching cancer earlier.
- What could go wrong
- This is a completed behavioral study, not a treatment trial. The self-sampling method may not be as accurate as clinic-based screening, and results may not apply to other groups.
