NCT ID NCT04557423

First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This completed trial enrolled 797 Asian American women (Korean, Vietnamese, Chinese) aged 30-65 who were overdue for cervical cancer screening. All participants received community education and help scheduling a clinic screening. Half also got an HPV self-sampling kit to use at home. The study measured how many women completed screening, either at a clinic or by returning the self-sample. The goal is to find better ways to reach underserved communities and prevent cervical cancer.

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
HPV self-sampling kit
What this could lead to
If successful, this approach could increase cervical cancer screening among Asian American women who are overdue, potentially catching cancer earlier.
What could go wrong
This is a completed behavioral study, not a treatment trial. The self-sampling method may not be as accurate as clinic-based screening, and results may not apply to other groups.
