Old drugs, new hope? ceritinib and docetaxel team up against tough lung cancer

NCT ID NCT03611738

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 2 times

Summary

This early-phase study tests whether combining two cancer drugs—ceritinib and docetaxel—can safely help people with advanced non-small cell lung cancer that has not responded to other treatments. About 21 adults with stage IIIB or IV disease will receive the drugs to find the best dose and see if tumors shrink. The goal is to control the cancer, not cure it.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

ceritinib (Zykadia) and docetaxel (Taxotere)

What this could lead to

If this combination proves safe and effective, it could offer a new treatment option for people with advanced non-small cell lung cancer who have few alternatives.

What could go wrong

This is a very early Phase 1 trial with only 21 participants, so it is primarily testing safety and dosing. The combination may not shrink tumors or improve survival, and side effects could be significant.
