Smart pump may beat standard antibiotic dosing for surgery infections
NCT ID NCT05253339
First seen Oct 01, 2025 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 23 times
Summary
This study tested a new way to give the antibiotic cefoxitin to prevent infections after colorectal surgery. Instead of the standard one-size-fits-all dose, a computer-controlled pump delivered a personalized amount based on each patient's weight and kidney function. About 2,500 adults having colon or rectal surgery took part. The goal was to see if the personalized method reduced surgical site infections better than the standard approach.
