Supercharged immune cells take on advanced melanoma
NCT ID NCT06961357
First seen Jun 27, 2026 ยท Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests a personalized treatment for advanced melanoma using a patient's own immune cells, called tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (TIL), which are boosted with a protein called CD40L. After a short course of chemotherapy to make room, the enhanced cells are infused back along with interleukin-2. The trial aims to see if this approach can shrink tumors in 36 people who have not responded to standard therapies.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only โ not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- CD40L-augmented tumor infiltrating lymphocytes (TIL)
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this could offer a new treatment option for advanced melanoma patients who have run out of standard therapies.
- What could go wrong
- This is an early-phase trial with only 36 participants, so results may not apply broadly. The treatment involves strong chemotherapy and immune side effects are common.
