NCT ID NCT04411225
First seen Jun 27, 2026 ยท Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This phase 3 trial tests whether adding cannabidiol (CBD) to standard treatment can improve symptoms, thinking, and inflammation in people with early psychosis. About 120 adolescents and adults will receive either CBD or a placebo for 8 weeks. Researchers will also explore what factors influence CBD's effects.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only โ not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- cannabidiol (CBD) oral solution
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this could point toward a safe, non-psychoactive add-on treatment to ease symptoms and improve thinking in early psychosis.
- What could go wrong
- This is still an early-phase trial with only 120 people, so results may not apply broadly. CBD may not outperform placebo, and side effects are possible.
