First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated Apr 28, 2026 · Updated 17 times

Summary

This study looks at whether antibiotics prevent infections from cat bites on the hand or forearm, and how long they should be taken. About 72 adults who were bitten within the last 24 hours will be randomly assigned to receive either a placebo, a 1-day course, or a 5-day course of amoxicillin-clavulanate. Researchers will track infections, side effects, and recovery over 30 days.
