New combo therapy aims to ease carpal tunnel pain without surgery
NCT ID NCT06781489
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This completed study tested whether combining a hand therapy technique (nerve mobilization) with two pain medications (gabapentin and ibuprofen arginine) reduces pain better than ibuprofen alone in people with carpal tunnel syndrome. 129 adults with confirmed carpal tunnel took part. The goal was to see if the combo approach provides greater pain relief and improves hand function.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
gabapentin and ibuprofen arginine
What this could lead to
If successful, this combination approach could offer a more effective, non-surgical option for reducing pain and improving hand function in carpal tunnel syndrome.
What could go wrong
This is a completed Phase 4 trial, but results are not yet published. The combination may not be significantly better than ibuprofen alone, and gabapentin can cause side effects like dizziness and drowsiness.
