New triple attack on rare melanoma shows promise in early trial

NCT ID NCT07236528

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This phase 2 trial tests a combination of two drugs (carilizumab and apatinib) plus radiation therapy as a first treatment for advanced mucosal melanoma, a rare and aggressive skin cancer. The study will enroll 30 adults who have not had prior systemic therapy. Researchers will measure how long the cancer stays under control and monitor side effects.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Carilizumab (immunotherapy), Apatinib mesylate (targeted drug), and radiotherapy

What this could lead to

If it works, this could offer a new first-line treatment option for advanced mucosal melanoma, potentially improving how long the cancer is kept under control.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-phase trial (30 people) with no control group, so results may not be definitive. The combination of three treatments may cause significant side effects.
