Could a cheap cough drug fight fatty liver? new trial aims to find out

Summary

This study tests whether carbocisteine, a drug already used for coughs, can safely reduce fat buildup in the liver of people with nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). About 46 adults with fatty liver will take the drug and be monitored for changes in liver fat via ultrasound. The goal is to see if this affordable medicine can help control the disease.
