Carb counting could curb prediabetes progression

NCT ID NCT07525622

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tests whether teaching basic carbohydrate counting can lower blood sugar levels in people with prediabetes. About 120 adults with prediabetes will either get standard lifestyle advice or extra training on counting carbs. Researchers will check HbA1c levels at 3 and 6 months to see if the education helps prevent progression to type 2 diabetes.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
carbohydrate counting education
What this could lead to
If it works, this could provide a simple, scalable dietary strategy to prevent or delay type 2 diabetes in people with prediabetes.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial (120 participants) testing a behavioral intervention, so results may not be generalizable. Dietary changes can be hard to maintain long-term.
