Engineered immune cells take on Hard-to-Treat brain cancers
NCT ID NCT02208362
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026
Summary
This early-stage trial tests a personalized immunotherapy for people with malignant glioma that has returned or not responded to standard treatment. The patient's own T-cells are collected, genetically modified in a lab to recognize and attack glioma cells, and then infused back into the brain. The main goals are to find a safe dose and to monitor side effects.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
genetically modified T-cells (CAR T-cells) targeting IL13Rα2
What this could lead to
If successful, this could lead to a new treatment option for patients with recurrent or treatment-resistant malignant glioma, potentially improving tumor control.
What could go wrong
This is an early Phase 1 trial focused on safety, so it is not yet known if the treatment will effectively shrink tumors. Side effects, including severe immune reactions, are possible.
