New CAR t-cell combo aims to beat leukemia relapse

NCT ID NCT06343090

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tests two approaches for people with B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia that has come back or not responded to treatment. One group gets a sequence of two types of CAR T-cells (targeting CD19 and CD22), while the other gets one type of CAR T-cell followed by a stem cell transplant. The goal is to see which strategy works better at keeping the cancer away. About 353 participants will choose their treatment group.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

CAR T-cells (CD19 and CD22) and stem cell transplant

What this could lead to

If successful, this could point toward a more effective treatment strategy for hard-to-treat B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia, potentially improving long-term survival.

What could go wrong

This is a non-randomized trial, so results may be less reliable. The treatment involves significant risks like severe side effects from CAR T-cells and transplant complications. It's not yet proven to be better than standard care.
