Scientists track Cancer's hidden toll on the body
NCT ID NCT05642819
Summary
This study aims to better understand cancer cachexia—a condition where patients lose muscle and weight, which can worsen outcomes even for those undergoing potentially curative surgery. Researchers will track 200 UK patients with certain digestive cancers, along with a small comparison group without cancer, measuring body composition, physical activity, quality of life, and immune markers over a year. The goal is to create a complete picture of how this wasting process develops and affects recovery, which could inform future care strategies.
