Bedside test may end guesswork in nerve pain treatment

NCT ID NCT06614322

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study aims to see if a quick bedside sensory test can predict which painkiller—pregabalin, duloxetine, or a placebo—works best for people with nerve pain in their feet. About 190 adults with diabetic, chemotherapy-related, or idiopathic nerve pain will try each treatment for 4 weeks. The goal is to personalize pain relief and speed up drug development.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
Pregabalin and duloxetine
What this could lead to
If successful, this could help doctors quickly match nerve pain patients to the most effective drug, reducing trial-and-error.
What could go wrong
This is a mid-stage study with only 190 people, so results may not apply to everyone. The sensory test might not reliably predict responses.
