California tests whether taking guns from High-Risk owners prevents violence

NCT ID NCT02318732

Summary

This study evaluates whether California's Armed and Prohibited Persons System (APPS) reduces violence by removing firearms from people who legally bought guns but later became prohibited from owning them. Researchers are following 20,000 people across about 1,000 California communities to see if the program lowers arrest rates for violent crimes. The study compares communities where the program starts at different times to measure its effectiveness.
