First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests a talk therapy called CETA for 300 mothers in a low-income area of Lima, Peru. The therapy aims to reduce depression, anxiety, and stress, and improve parenting and children's well-being. Another 300 mothers receive standard support. Researchers will follow families for a year to see if CETA leads to lasting improvements.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Common Elements Treatment Approach (CETA) - a talk therapy delivered by trained non-professionals
What this could lead to
If successful, this could provide an affordable, evidence-based mental health program for mothers in low-resource settings, improving family well-being and economic outcomes.
What could go wrong
This is a phase 2 trial with 600 participants, so results are not yet proven. The therapy's success may depend on local factors and may not generalize to other regions.
