Tape measure vs. X-Ray: a simpler way to spot muscle loss in seniors?

NCT ID NCT05869487

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study compares using a tape measure around the calf to a standard X-ray method for diagnosing sarcopenia (age-related muscle loss) in hospitalized adults aged 75 and older. Researchers will measure calf, arm, and thigh circumferences in 298 participants and see how well these simple measurements match the X-ray results. If accurate, this could offer a cheaper, faster, and more accessible way to diagnose sarcopenia without special equipment.
