First seen Feb 20, 2026 · Last updated Jun 11, 2026 · Updated 15 times

Summary

This study looked at whether taking caffeine and sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) before a workout helps people do more reps and feel less tired. Twelve healthy, active adults did bench press and knee extension exercises after taking the supplements or a placebo. The goal was to see if these common supplements can improve short-term resistance training performance.
