AI eye on your gut: could Computer-Aided colonoscopy cut cancer risk?
NCT ID NCT07299071
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether using a computer-aided detection (CADe) system during screening colonoscopy helps find and remove more advanced polyps, potentially lowering the risk of colorectal cancer. About 592 adults at increased risk for colorectal cancer will be randomly assigned to standard colonoscopy or colonoscopy with CADe. Researchers will then check after 3 years to see if fewer advanced adenomas developed in the CADe group.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- computer-aided detection (CADe) system
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this could show that using AI during colonoscopy helps prevent advanced polyps and potentially reduces the risk of colorectal cancer.
- What could go wrong
- This is a relatively small, early-stage trial (592 participants) and the benefit of CADe in reducing long-term cancer risk is still unproven. The AI may also have false positives or miss some lesions.
