First seen Jan 18, 2026 · Last updated May 09, 2026 · Updated 13 times

Summary

This study looked at why many cancer patients lose weight and muscle, a condition called cachexia. Researchers collected tissue and blood samples from 282 people during cancer surgery and compared them to samples from patients having surgery for non-cancer issues. They also measured patients' strength, activity, and quality of life before and after surgery. The goal was to find early signs of cachexia and identify possible targets for future treatments.
