Scientists uncover hidden link between teeth grinding and your Body's 'Autopilot' system
NCT ID NCT06824766
First seen May 15, 2026 · Last updated May 15, 2026
Summary
This study looked at 89 adults to see if there is a connection between the automatic nervous system (the part that controls things like heart rate) and the tightness, stiffness, and elasticity of jaw muscles in people who grind their teeth (bruxism). Participants included both people with bruxism and healthy volunteers. Researchers measured pain levels, heart activity with a chest strap, and muscle properties with a special device. The goal was to better understand bruxism, not to test a new treatment.
