A quick suction trick may help surgeons see better during lung surgery
NCT ID NCT07660588
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This trial tests whether a one-minute suction of the airway leading to the surgical lung helps it collapse faster and more completely during uniportal video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (U-VATS). Good lung collapse gives the surgeon a clearer view and may reduce complications. About 100 adults scheduled for elective U-VATS will be randomly assigned to receive the suction or not. The surgical team will rate lung collapse at several time points, and researchers will also track oxygen levels, inflammation markers, and recovery.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
bronchial suction
What this could lead to
If it works, this simple technique could make lung surgery safer and faster by improving the surgeon's view without extra tools.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial. The suction may not improve collapse enough to matter, or could cause minor irritation. Results may not apply to all patients.
