New drug combo aims to tame inflammation before stem cell transplant
NCT ID NCT05787574
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This phase 2 study tests whether giving emapalumab or a combination of fludarabine and dexamethasone before a stem cell transplant can reduce inflammation and help the donated cells take hold better. The trial involves 39 people with primary immune regulatory disorders or autoinflammatory conditions. Researchers will measure how well the stem cells engraft and track overall survival and event-free survival after the transplant.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Emapalumab (also called Gamifant), fludarabine, and dexamethasone
What this could lead to
If it works, this could point toward a safer way to prepare patients with immune disorders for a stem cell transplant, reducing inflammation and improving the chance of a successful transplant.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-phase trial with only 39 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The treatments also carry risks like infection or side effects from the drugs and transplant procedure.
